I made this kit for a friend who is one of those minimilist people. (What's up with that?) It's based on an old design of mine.
It's compact and light wieght enough to meet her requirements. Repacking took almost an hour and there is very little wasted space, I even built a tinder cube in the well in the lid of the bottle. The cotton is perfect tinder for the spark device. For some reason the fish hooks ended up under the razor blade during the layout, you can see them if you look hard. The butterfly closure is shown unwrapped for clarity purposes only. She has a small compass she plans on super gluing to the lid. Thanks for readng this thread and any critiques and suggestions are welcome.

Nice job. Nostalgic-remember the aluminum film cans? I sometimes included a short section of hacksaw or jigsaw blade-fits under the tape on the side of the container. Thanks for the memories!

Certainly minimalist! I have a friend into it also. I'll link her to this thread.

I wish we could still get those. They're great for storing so many things. I'd pay for them - even without the film being included.

Haertig,

You can still find the aluminum film cans on eBay.

Thanks finn. Yeah, my other design was better but she felt it a shade to heavy for something we both hope she never has to use. I have a tic tac box model in the works that is fairly complex, considering the tiny space I have to work with.
