Just thought you all might get a kick out of this story. Apparently a hiker trying to observe a mother bear and her cub was attacked by a mountain lion; this triggered the bear to attack the lion! And you think you've had crappy hikes! grin

It's clear Momma bear did not think of him as a threat, even though she knew he was there (especially after she pulled the lion off of him). This makes me wonder. . .

Is it possible her protective instinct was covering him as well as her cubs? Or was she just not interested because he was not seen as a threat? Yet, as I understand it, Momma bears can get pretty aggressive if a human even starts to get too close to her cubs.

He came back alive, not hurt (or at least not badly hurt) and with a heck of story to tell. Is this really a bad hike? smile

I did see an article today that said the GF&P is a bit dubious about his story. They say they "cannot confirm" that he was attacked by a lion...

I had suspicions about the original story also and read last night in regards that the hiker's claim is not substantiated.

Another link here.

A little healthy skepticism might be called for here.
