Reminds me of Les Stroud, but he's in the wild a lot longer. Watch all 5 if you have time. The psychological effects of wilderness isolation are eye-opening.

The promo for this really made me question National Geographic's integrity. I haven't watched any of the episodes yet, but from Izzy's reviews, know it didn't go well. The Nat Geo promo makes it seem, to me at least, like this was a reckless and dangerous experiment conducted by an institution that should know and promote better. Based on the promo alone, it's as if they thought it was a joke.

He was well equipped and had support from the outside. I just found it interesting how the fear of bears and loneliness eventually consumed him.

I thought the same thing about another lonely guy in the wild.

Very interesting and thank you for posting it.

I will admit that I am a little sceptical. He seems to be clean, in pretty good health, and appears to have a little extra weight on him in spite of the fact that he has only built a temporary camp and has no apparent food source.... I don't think a machete is ideal for harvesting mice. Judging from what is shown in the video, he does not gather anywhere near enough wood to get through the night. The area looks to be wet and remote, therefore not right on a main trail. It seems unlikely to me that one would find both a functioning lighter and a gold watch in a place like that. At any rate, it was an intertaining and thought provoking video and well worth the viewing time.

I watched this a while ago and was very surprised.

Apart from any issues with bears and loneliness, his choice of equipment seemed very poor, especially for someone with his experience.
Cast iron cooking implements and multiple guns ?

It was difficult to believe that he had gone into the venture willingly, because from day one he was clearly uncomfortable and seemed to struggle emotionally the entire time.
That is OK, but he himself described it as his boy-hood dream, so it was very surprising.

Of course the editing distorts things a bit.

Overall a very odd show, but worth watching IMO. There’s always something you can learn from others.
