I am looking forward to buying an insulated bottle for my BOB and i was wondering whoch you would prefer based on durability, price, quality, and weight. i am not too concerned with weight because i am used to lugging a 30+ lb.bagkpack full of books all day! thank you!

AFAIK, either one will be good. I have used a bunch of stainless steel bottles over the years, and they all performed quite well. I would recommend a model with a wide mouth. They can handle a thick soup or stew as well as that nice cup of tea.

As I get older weight matters more.
I have been using the lighter Thermos brand 1.1L stainless steel thermoses for years.
They are a lot lighter than the Stanley. I have stainless Stanley brand thermoses for work. The weight difference is quite noticeable.

The Stanley has been the proffered Thermos in the British military for over 30 years. An excellent bit of kit that has really passed the test of time. My Stanley 1.9 l is 20 years old and has stood up to everything that has been thrown at it including quite a few operational tours and trips abroad.

We have been using a Thermos brand quart bottle for three years now. It is the one that has a stainless steel core overmoulded with grey plastic and an integral handle. It lighter than a typical stainless bottle of that size, and has proven nearly indestructable. The insulation qualities are exceptional, and it doesn't leak. We use it in the truck when we go hunting, but with the handle it could be tied to a packframe.

The thermos brand has very good reputation where I live. It has won several independent tests in various magazines. I am a big fan of stainless steel thermoses, you just do a good job on the lid and there is not much that can go wrong. Unfortunately, most manufacturers will put some plastic or paint on them that is not dishwasher safe... fashion is not practical, I guess.

Funny you should mention it. I just recently purchased three new Stanley bottles last week. I had one a few years ago that my wife managed to destroy, and I figured it was time to replace it. I found a "buy two, get one free" deal at a local market and got one of the standard 1.1 liter and two of the wide mouth .9 liter versions. So for $50 I got three new vacuum bottles. Not bad I reckon.

Not bad at all, the prices on some vacuum sealed bottles are crazy! My friend had a thermos from his dad and it had a cork seal(missing) but he tried to destroy it by slamming it on the road 12 times, nothing but dents and a broken lid, which is replacable. thermos' seem to be made of thinner SS and dont hold up so well.

Stanley has a pretty devoted following here. In my family we have both. The Thermos brand name one gets used more because its smaller and lighter. Personally I use the Stanley's. They last longer (mostly I use it to keep coffee hot) and the Thermos ones are too small fwiw. The old timer's swear up and down by Stanley, and I have never been disappointed in the Stanley brand. The Thermos brand has let me down a couple of times (warm instead of hot coffee). I have noticed that pretty much all of the construction workers, and landscapers, use the Stanley brand exclusively. It might be regional but Stanley is considered the best in my area.

No affiliations or kickbacks...
