"...Then it shows the fireball and the target merged in the same hole..."

Sounds to me as if the write got his/her mirrors confused. That sounds more like an old two sided mirror (which have always worked for me), where you watched the "fireball" on your face in the reflection, while keeping the target in the hole, then moved the fireball to the hole....

This reminds me ... I have a terrible time working with the signal mirror targeting system with my eye-glasses.

Does anyone else struggle with that?

I always figured I'd just use the two-handed method.

That "dummy" (John “Lofty” Wiseman) who wrote the SAS survival book has a pretty impressive resume and background.

I would spend 2 weeks learning survival skills from him...

Can't help you with the glasses, but I have a tip that helps you see if your aim is accurate at long range.

When you practice with a target that is close enough to see the reflected light hitting nearby and steer it to the target, you're not really using the aiming system and don't know if you could really, say, hit an aircraft without that feedback.

Instead, aim at a very distant retro-reflective target such as a road sign, bike reflector, tail light, etc. You'll only see the light if you actually hit the target.

Actually I have met and to this day, know very well and respect, a real Sherpa who has climbed on some of the highest mountains in the world. He at one time had a dog named Sherpadog, hence my handle on this forum. He does not mind me using this handle and actually thinks it is respectful.

I watch <1 hour of TV per week and have never seen Bear Grylls so it is not fair for me to comment on something I do not have first-hand knowledge of.

As for the rest of your comments, this fish is not biting...

Fact is, I know that half the stuff in that book is utter nonsense though

What do you find to be utter nonsense about the Lofty Wisemans book the SAS Survival Handbook?

I can't find anything in the book that is really objectional in any way, let alone nonsense.
