An IDAHO GRAVITY TRAP tripped and nearly caught two snowmobilers this week in Boise County, Idaho.

There are many lessons for those that venture into the serious outdoors.

The only equipment that this couple really had was "LUCK".

Normally all die up here depending on a cell phone.

Well, at least that "gravity trap" didn't have punji stakes in it...

I think this ordeal just reinforces the need to be prepared, Murphy is always out there, it doesn't matter if we're just going to the store 5 min from the house, half day snowmobile trip or an extended hike, things can and do happen. At least they had a cell phone, and I'm sure there is plenty of room on a snowmobile for a emergency kit, if they would have only thought to bring one. I think everyone at one point in their life has fallen into the trap (I'm only going here or there and nothing is going to happen) but with all the natural & man made disasters, lost hikers, stranded cars etc. that are in the news lately, that people would start taking more precautions.

Snow mobilers are often some of the worse offenders. They drive out expecting to drive back.
Remember Rulon Jones? I think one of the Foyts of racing legend also had a survival ordeal because of a failed machine and no survival preparation.

I used to do insurance quotes for snow machines (in addition to quads and motorcycles) and once in a while a wrecked sled would come in with 6 pack rings in the under seat storage or glove box...insurance adjusters LOVED those finds.

I like how a link on the page is to another snowmobiling couple's "story of survival."

THE PILOT PEAK GRAVITY TRAP

Open acme mapper and input the peaks coordinates

http://mapper.acme.com/
N 43.95983 W 115.68655

Now go north down the trail to -

N 43.95983 W 115.68655

Switch back and forth between "HYBRID" and "TOPO"-

Sled failure-
Exhausted-
Easier to go down hill-
Think you will hit a road-
The "GRAVITY TRAP HAS SPRUNG"-

Few humans are capable of hiking down that drainage and come out at LOWMAN.
