Has anyone used trioxane in an emergency situation? I've used it to heat MREs, and carry it as an emergency firestarter, but I was wondering what experiences people have had with it.

I've never used it in an "Emergency" - I'm lucky enough to not yet have found myself in a real emergency. I have, however, used it to boil water and to start a reluctant fire where the surrounding tinder was wet or, at best, damp. Started the fire in windy conditions like a champ. It was cold (nearly 32° F) and boiling the water was a little more challenging. Works better with some kind of wind screen and a lid on the pot is pretty much a must.

This was not an emergency, but a trioxane bar fired right up and ignited a fire lay at -50F in the snow. The bar lit with one swipe of a ferrorod. You mileage may vary; experiment under the worst possible conditions you can stand (underwater...?)

Have not used it in an emergency but I do use a small piece to get my Svea 123 stove primed. It works great and in no time I have a hot cup of water for my Earl Grey and biscotti along the creek bank

Carry some with me in every vehicle. Awesome firestarter. I have never, never failed to start a fire in no matter what conditions with one.

I remember I went on one of my daughters Girl Scout campouts..she is young so the instructors still light the fires. One of the instructors was having a horrible time getting a fire going...so I offered my assistance. No, she said we need to do it the girl scout way...after 30 minutes, she finally relented and in no time my Trioxane had a blaze going.

Buy lots of it, it's easy to store. You can get it relatively cheap from Sportsmans Guide
