Do you have one of a thing and just always have it handy or get many and put them in useful places?
Think sunscreen or multi tools.

I tend to build a bag or a kit for a specific purpose, such as my "outdoors activities" Camelbak, range bag, or emergency kit. Typically I'll have a multitool in each, a flashlight in each, and so on.

For gears, I prefer many. The engine wraps out around 30mph in 1st.

Multi-tools, I probably only have 5 or 6 of those (and rarely use any of them). Flashlights are a different story. We have to have at least 30 of those suckers spread all over creation. Knives? I've got a ton, but generally stick with only one or two of those for regular use. Cars - the front of our house looks like a car lot. I'm more choosy about electronics. I often have a spare for the less expensive items, but as the expense goes up I tend to buy a better quality more reliable single version (when I was young I bought the cheap stuff, but not any more). Sunscreen - we buy that at Costco. So enough on hand to last us 13 lifetimes. They're all stored together in one bulging cabinet however, except for one each in the primary cars. AA batteries, we also buy at Costco. We can usually get that package out to the truck with only one forklift trip.

I have a light and knife as EDC on my key ring. I also usually carry a Skeletool, as well. My hiking day packs are set up with headlamps and other basic essentials.

Lanterns and basic tools are organized and located where I can find them quickly (a real chore for me because I am basically disorganized - just ask Mrs. Hikermor....

For gear I regularly use, I usually have two of each. One is easily accessible such as a pocket or my EDC bag and one in my bedroom.

I have to have at least three gears: 1, 2, and D. For that reason, I have yet to drive a Ford Model T, which has a two-speed transmission.

I will make an exception for steam and electric cars, which only have one speed.
