I don't have a lot of analysis here other than to say it seems like a PLB more than paid for itself off South Carolina recently and that the rescue swimmer is awesome.

Warning: Some bad language.

That's what we've been talking about. Capsize your boat and assuming you have it on your person, turn on your PLB and a few (maybe quite a few) minutes later a USCG Dolphin helo shows up and puts a rescue swimmer in the water to coordinate things on the surface. Everybody is okay because they were wearing their PFD and they knew how to swim. USCG gets a nearby fishing boat to assist and before you get cold & hungry, you are out of the water and looking at your capsized boat doing much better without you. Owner of the other boat hands you a beer. Rescue swimmer departs like batman and life is good.

So how did the boat capsize? Water looked fairly calm... Helluva way to get on YouTube.

Good question! At about 3:27, there is a quick shot of the part of the boat they are standing on and it looks like that part of the boat has a long split in it.

The youtube video makes it sound like a "failure" of the hull sinks that boat. To me the keel of a power boat is an odd place for the hull to "fail". I wonder if they hit a rock on the way out that day, didn't think much of it, but after coming off plane and letting the water soak into the hull for a few hours she capsized.

Generally, when I think of a hull failing I think of a fold when a bulkhead gives-way, etc., not what seems to be a missing chunk from the keel (though a keel falling off of a sailboat is certainly a failure that occurs).

Who knows though. Way too hard to say from the video.
