I have an old brass UCO Candle Lantern. Great sentimental value. It burns okay for about half the candle. Then the candle seems to get stuck. The flame burns down into the holder and melted wax runs out of the bottom of the lantern. I cannot find anything in the candle holder that would be snagging the candle or the push plate. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it?

are you using candles made for the lamp and if the real old one with the flip open top are you running with the top open and loosing the heat needed to keep the body warm so the candle moves right, spring old??

I am using UCO candles. They are older candles. The lantern does not have the flip-top. (Although I have seen an old flip-top version and liked it.) The spring is the original spring which was in the lantern when I bought it in 1985-6, but the spring seems okay.

A picture of the lantern, burning properly when the pic was taken. About 3 hours later the flame burned down into the holder and melted wax poured out of the bottom of the lantern.

The symptom fits for either plate getting stuck, or spring getting old-
Between the two- if the plate slides freely, the spring is the more likely culprit.

They sell a refubishment kit that includes replacement parts (chain, spring etc)

here is list MSRP is 5.99
http://www.industrialrev.com/refurbishment-kit.html

found actual kit searching for UCO Refurb Kit- amazon 9.68
