Not sure this would work, but it sure sounds like fun!

Russian Fans Urged To Drink Whisky To Ward Off Swine Flu

In reality it's stories like this that, if true, make me think we're all doomed.

OK, I am convinced!
Now where do I get a few gallons of Welsh Whiskey for my first aid and medical kits?

Hey! what's wrong with having booze in your kits? I have a gallon of whiskey and brandy in my long term car bug out kit. And a liter of brandy in my short term kit. All in plastic bottles.

If it was good enough to be considered a ration at sea between 1500-1900, it sure as heck can be considered a ration in my emergency kit.

My great grandfather was in the Navy prior to the turn of the 20th century, and they used to give him a daily ration of hard alcohol. Usually whiskey, sometimes rum.

For the rest of his life, after he got out of the military, he would have one shot of whiskey in the morning (to "start his engine", he would say) and one shot at night before he went to bed (to "stop his engine"). Otherwise, he rarely ever drank alcohol.

He did this every day until he died, at 96 years old.

Now, myself, I keep a stock of Booker's Bourbon on hand, as well as a flask of it in my kit. At over 125 proof it burns readily, it works as an antiseptic (unlike the 80 proof stuff), and you don't need to stock as much as lesser proof alcohol (you can just water it down to where you want it). I don't drink it daily like my great-grandfather did, but I figure it's useful enough to keep on hand at least.

Funny, I know a few elderly who drink at least one glass of hard alcohol a day and they are the "Strongest" go-getters I know especially considering they are in their 80's and do regular work, yard work, etc, etc.

I enjoy a good whisky as much as the next guy (and rum, tequila, gin, and brandy, but usually only one at a time. . .) but as a preventative for swine flu? I'm not so sure.

One of the cool things I learned about New Zealand when I was there is that there is an active and legal home distilling hobby. Actually, when I was in Eastern Tennessee I learned that there is an active home distilling hobby there too, but somewhat less legal. . .

You know how you can tell if someone has swine flu?

They cough like this:

*cough* *cough* *oink*

The other day I heard an old boy telling a pharmacist that he is having a glass of whisky each morning and pouring the last dregs on his hands to sanitize them! I suppose it’s no different to using alcohol hand gel.

No Alcoholic beverages have been recalled but 800,000 bottles of an antibacterial sanitizer have been recently recalled because of bacterial contamination.
