The tale of two Burmese fisherman found floating on Saturday in an ice box off Australia for 25 days is coming under scrutiny.
The fishermen told Australian authorities they had climbed into the red cooler after their 30 foot fishing boat sank in the Indian Ocean on Dec. 23. The other 18 members of the crew are presumed drowned.
According to some reports, the men at fish stored in the cooler and drank rainwater that gathered in it. They were spotted by a routine customs patrol aircraft.
The staff at the hospital they were taken to were surprised at the men’s good condition and said there was no sunburn or chapped lips on the 22 and 24-year old men.
After being released from the hospital, the men are being interviewed and will be held in a motel for several days. Unless they claim refugee status, they will be returned to their home.

Sounded kind of fishy ( no pun intended) when I first read this story yesterday.

Today, BBC has a good article here that questions the fishermen's claims.

Obviously the only gear available as the ship went down was lip balm and sunscreen. Sounds like a BS story to me.

I am going to launch myself in a waist high, barely seaworthy box with NO supplies and hope a passing vessel or aircraft comes along.
And if I am a fisherman, a life spent fishing under the sun at sea is going to make me sunburn like a Hawaii tourist from Minnesota.
