I've read it and although it has a few good points, there is too much to be desired in this book and follows many of the same stereotypes of other survivalist fiction books. For example an EMP taking out the whole country, the fights with the mutant bikers. Also the false sense of almost everyone in the community getting along except for the token bad guy.

I still consider this book way above other survival fiction books such as Patriots by John, Wesley Rawles.

I agree that in any situation (good or bad) there always has been and will always be the criminal element, be it singular or in groups.

In my previous post, I mentioned the MZB's only due to the fact that in 3 different survivalist novels I have read, MZB's are part of the story. Yet in all the novels by Tom Clancy et al, MZB's have not even been mentioned (that I recall). Some of Clancy's books and or chapters have plots where the US in particular is on it's knees and ripe for such MZB activity.

This is getting totally OT for this forum so I will end this post and abstain from any future discussions on this topic.

Try Around the Campfire. It definitely fits that discussion board.

I completely enjoyed the book. The writing wasn't literature quality, but I found that I was actually interested in the characters and their situation. Wish I had friends like Mark, Jim, Gunny, et al.

Some of the scenarios seem a little far-fetched (I don't think the EMP effect would be so widespread, but I'm not a nuclear physicist) but it still was a fun read. Seriously, who hasn't daydreamed about knocking off the MZBs while saving the world.

I wouldn't make my preparations entirely based upon the novel, but consider it thought-provoking in my considerations for long-term survival.

Still waiting for the sequel, "Lights Flickering: Revenge of MZBs"

Not too sure there will actually be a sequel, but Halffast is working on a new (shorter) story called “Lost and Found”. The work-in-progress can be tracked on the AR15.com forums here for anyone interested.
