Any suggestions on small, but at the same time comprehensive lightweight survival book?
I recently watched Ray Mears' program on survival at sea. The program was about the survival of Steven Callahan. It was interesting for me to see this program because it was Steve Callahan's book that made me to think about wilderness survival first time - I read it in Russian while I lived in Kyrgyzstan almost 20 years ago(I guess the author may not even know where Kyrgyzstan is) . As remember his book, he also had a survival book in his kit and it played an important role in his survival.
So, why should I not have some survival book too? I do not think I need it for survival at sea, but survival on land will do well.
Regards,

Here is one that is small, yet contains much information:
SAS Survival Manual

I carry the "SAS Survival FLickbook" by John "Lofty" Wiseman in my Spec-Ops Pack Rat. It's divided into seven sections and each section is color coded. In the food section there are color pictures of the plants to eat and also to avoid. It works for me.

I believe the SAS pocket survival manual is still available (though out of print), try Barnes & Noble, they've got a pretty good used/out of print collection.

P.S. the author is John "Lofty" Wiseman

After catching up with other posts, I see this is totally covered. Another great one is " Survival, a manual that could save your life " by Chris Jankowski...find it at WSI... www.wildernesssurvival.com
By the way, I have no affilliation with Chris or WSI, but in my oppinion, it's the best single survival manual out there.

Anyone should know Kyrgyzstan is just west of China and dominated by the Tian Shan Mountains with @ 5 million potential ETS members. I first learned this from a monk at Saint Herman's priory in Kodiak Alaska. I was concerned I might stray into Soviet space on my explorations. Look for the GEM edition of the S.A.S. survival manual allready mentioned.
