And I'll bet he won't have much with him the next time he goes out, either.

I agree, if he's a snowboarder/and or skier, he won't want to be loaded down with survival equipment -- that would cramp his style, even though he has a tendency to go off in directions and areas that he shouldn't -- besides, bad things always happen to the other person, not the macho experienced snowboarder/skier

The double irony is we link to a site for skiers with a minimalist survival kit geared to the sport. Double in that when I just checked it the site seems to have also succumbed.

I agree, he should have had at least something like the Ritter PSK with him. But, from what info I can get from the story, he did have the most important thing in an emergency, a cool head :-). Realized he could not walk out, built a good shelter, and stayed put. Many in this situation would have gone into a state of panic, and started walking, and kept walking, until they died.

You never know...

Perhaps this is the type of event that has the potential to make a difference in the way a person looks at the world.

I can remember the moment in my life where "It'll never happen to me" turned into "Holy ****biscuits, I can't believe this happened to me".

After that it was a quick trip to the realization that the Earth is not under my feet to support me and the Sun doesn't shine for me, and I better make sure I can deal with most any situation I find myself in. LOL
