Has anyone ever thought about carrying a scuba knife on their leg for EDC? I have a Tusa blunt tip with a saw back, line cutter, and blunt tip for prying stuff. It is made for salt water so it is resistant to weather and other stuff. The sheath has leg straps already so no need to worry about securing it. I am still toying with idea, I have worn it around town several times and it seems comfortable. Talk amongst yourselves and let me know.

I wore one like that for a while, an old Tekna if I remember correctly. It worked pretty good for that and several other carries during the summer when I was in and around water. One of my college roommate’s friends thought he liked it better than I did and took it with him much to my dismay. I have thought about replacing it several times but have yet to find one I truly like. Most seem to have very good stainless characteristics with poor edge holding qualities. One day I may have to look again and see what is available.

I EDC'd a Kershaw Amphibian for a while in the late 80s or early 90s. It was cool to look at but not as versatile as a good folder. It was good for prying, though.

I still have an old Tekna somewhere, the one with the hard plastic sheath that had a spring loaded retainer.
I think it is clipped to a PFD somewhere with the (unused recently) canoe gear.
I think it would be of limited use in a survival situation, as the blade is too thick to cut well, and 440C steel would snap if you pried too vigourously.

Lost of folks bemoan the passing of the TEKNA products. I understand that the company is being revived and that some of the products will be back. Mine held and edge remarkably well for a dive knife. Unfortunately, mine wound up in 200' of water off Cozumel, and I didn't have enough air to go get it.

I have an UK Titanium fixed blade scuba knife. The sheath(sp?) isn't nice for EDC but the knife is CRAZY LIGHT WEIGHT!

I will be buying another titanium knife in the future.

I've been curious as to how well Ti sharpens. Tell us about it.

Question: The reason for water-sports knifes to be so brittle is because they are made for the majority of stainless steel to prevent them rust. Or am I totally wrong?

I think it is just because there are not many divers who are knive people; 'least I have never known any, except pretty serious ex-mil folks & LE/SAR people. Most sport divers just don't know and don't care. Not many folks will take a Randall 16 out on a reef.

For example, I am the only one I ever saw on a recreational dive that carried two knives, except for a legendary Mexican guide named Martine.
