I am getting my FAK refreshed.

I finished reading:
http://www.amazon.com/Wilderness-Medicine-Beyond-First-Aid/dp/076270490X

As well as this:
http://www.equipped.org/medical.htm

Both were educational.

Any other members recommend other "Survival Medicine" reading material?

Not a great article by itself, but its links might be worth looking at.

I'd also recommend the course text for WFA taught at NOLS:

This is a very complete manual on surviving for a long time without medical professionals from Austere Survivalist. Worth a look.

"Where There is No Doctor" and other similar books can be downloaded for free from The Hesperian Foundation.

A few days ago I picked up a copy of NOLS "Wilderness Medicine." I've only had a chance to read a few sections and skim others, but so far I've been pretty happy with it smile

The NOLS book is great. Like any of the texts on the subject though, it is especially good if you take one of their courses. That's the thing about Wilderness First Aid. You really want to practice, and be put into some uncomfortable situations, and see how you are supposed to handle things.

The books make it seem so, I don't know, academic? Instead, at a NOLS course, or a SOLO class, you might be hiking on your weekend training, and you'll come across someone lying at the base of a nasty rock ledge, with a bloody mess about them. You'll be improvising a lot, managing the safety of the scene, learning how to lead the other folks around you to support the rescue, stabilization, transport, etc. It's well worth the weekend for WFA, or much more than a weekend for WFR or WEMT. If you're leading groups in the wild, you really owe it to them to have the training, even if it's not "required".

Raspy, was there supposed to be a different link to the special forces handbook? You posted the same link twice.

Yes the second one was the one that NightHiker posted. Sorry about that.
