Just read a story on another forum about a guy who had to run from some 'friends' who turned out to be questionable fellows!

What would you include in a small evasion kit that may not be common in survival kits?

1) Know when to get out of Dodge. 2) Know how to get out of Dodge. Biggest problems you will have are a) Breaking contact. b) making the bad guys decide that following you is not worth the candle. The bad guys have the advantage of local knowledge & have already decided what they are going to do. So you need to hurt them badly enough to make them very wary about following you. Trip wire and cable tidy's for improvised traps would be a good start. I would prefer a grenade or three. Or a claymore mine. Sadly however they ain't generally an option. Pity that.....

Urban or Outdoor situation? If you are close enough, a couple of salt and pepper packets would provide material to throw in the eyes. Of course if the wind is blowing, or there are multiple assailants...

In a natural setting, sand or dirt could be substituted, and with more material, one could do a sweeping throw to affect more people.

Even the coins in your pocket can be thrown at the eyes to distract.

It really depends on the setting and whether or not other people are close by, for example, large crowds.

Of course, some M-70's or smoke devices along with a Bic might prove useful for making an assailant hesitate...

Again, depending on the situation...do you need to disable the assailants? Or just distract them to get away?

Broad question. Perhaps you could provide more details of what you might expect to encounter?

You might get some good ideas from the Army or Air Force SERE manual. I know there are public versions available from places like Barnes and Noble. At one point, I think I saw it online, I'll see if I can find it again. They go beyond the usual survival info, and cover escape and evasion. Even better if you can get a copy of the services version of the manual that isn't sanitized to make it PC.

As always maintain a heightened Situational Awareness.

After you get away or out of their AOC (Area of Control) which varies by your assailant(s) increase your Time Distance Gap between you and your assailants.

Reduce your detect ability.

Diversion

Speed, Stealth, Silence

Be careful when hiding about, Size, Shape, Color, Movement, Silence, Silhouette, Smell, Shadow, Shine(Surface).

Camouflage when necessary. Dissolve into your surroundings.

Don’t follow normal Lines of Drift when you can change your path and the new path will definitely benefit your increase of the Time Distance Gap.

Change your mode of travel when you can.

Think “Out of the Box”, do things that don’t fit the norm.

I know not much about magic tricks you could put in a kit to use, you might throw out a scenario or two.

A long time ago I stopped to help a biker after he took a nasty fall. 'Tiny' dressed out @ 300 lbs and sported the famous emblem of the Hells Angels on his vest. A few months later I went with my good polish catholic business partner Bob to a pizza parlour to hear mutual friend's bluegrass band ( Bob was the 'leader' of my island misadventure.) The only people there were a family celebrating their 12 Y/O daughter's birthday and two REALLY,REALLY big football players from the local college. Football players decided to catcall and insult the band's performance and play Rap on the juke box. I sort of staggered over ( post pizza and pitcher of beer) and asked them real polite like to shut up. They objected. I demonsrated anthropological non verbal communication by knocking their pitcher of beer in their direction. The two football players s-l-o-w-l-y stood up. I prepared in my disabled condition to egress. In a flash they began apologising and asked me to let them just leave quietly. I thought I must be in the same league as Charles Bonson, Chesty Puller and superman. Football jocks quickly slid out and left. I turned around triumphant. There was Tiny and 5 other bikers reaching inside thier vests for various ETS items. We all sang happy birthday to the 12 y/o. Bob said a prayer to Saint Jude. Moral? Always have a backup plan around disreputable characters.

And always have friends in low places.

Theoretically speaking. Theoretically, mind you.

A bogus ID set. Up until a few years ago, VT still didn't require a photo on the drivers liscence, and it was easy to fake. (Helps if you look a lot older, to.)

A set of lock picks.

Rope or a roll of tubular webbing. Think vertical, humans generally don't.

Colored contacts, in your perscription if you need one, or stage glasses if you don't.

Razor and small scissors.

Cash, lots of it.

A lot of good friends. Remember, friends help you move, good friends help you move bodies.
