I was really wanting an Atwood Micro BugOutBar, but really couldn't justify the $60, although I'm sure it's worth it. So, I made one myself. The picture isn't the greatest. http://webpages.charter.net/dougd/flash/IM000396.jpg
The finished product on the bottom started out as the one on top. I got it from http://www.mcmaster.com/ product number 6000A3. It is hardened spring steel. I thought I could modify it with my tools at home, but no go. I needed an industrial grinder to cit the piece off, and an arc welder to cut the hole. I was going to make two, but it was a lot more work than I anticipated.

Slick!
Have you come up with a use for the remaining 1/3 of the original bar?

About 15 minutes once I had the right tools.

Drill a hole for a split ring. That will give you some extra leverage for the angled bit.

I did and there is. It doesn't show well in the picture, but that's how the clip is attached. That was the hardest part and required the welder to cut it.

That's really impressive. Maybe I can enlist someone to help me build one. That's quite an impressive reduction in cost!

Hehe... that's what I meant about enlisting some help. I used to have access to that equipment, but now I'll have to talk up one of my cousins who work metal machining equipment.

Yea, the flat bars are great. I made one for PSK use and have 1 I carry in my wallet. I've had one in my wallet about 6 months, and have used it a lot. I carry a small saw blade, a double ended screwdriver bit, and a large philips bit tucked in my wallet.

I saw it. I was speaking of repeating the process if possible with the bent end that is left over.

My mistake, sorry. Sometimes I lose track of which post is replying to which.
The hole was the hardest part, unfortunately. I had to have a friend cut the hole with a welding unit. I don't want to pester him.

What? Afraid that your friend might put a hole in you?
