If you do have to leave you BOB you have to use what you have on you. So what is you EDC?

Mine:
Gerber Vector
Smith & Wesson Trapper
Gerber Clutch & Larger Multi Tool(forgot which one)
Bic lighter
15 foot Paracord
Light my fire scout model
Paper matches
Tube of chap stick

That should get me the thirty feet to my truck for maxie kit.

- Spyderco Salt-I

- Freedom led light

- 2.0 meg flash drive with personal, business & financial records

- Altoids tin PSK with: 8 waterproof matches, spark-lite, 6 pieces of tinder, 16" square of aluminum foil folded, button compass, whistle, 4' of wire, mini-knife, fresnel lens card, 3 fish hooks, 3 swivels, 4 shot sinkers, 30' of dental floss, survival instruction card, 3 large safety pins, 4' of duct tape, with the tin wrapped in 6' of paracord.

- Sucrets tin FAK with assorted bandaids, aspirin, advil, sting/itch relief creme, antibacterial creme, antiseptic wipes, tape, mini-scissors, gauze bandage, first aid instructions, also wrapped in 6' of paracord.

I play with the contents of the tins constantly, but that's what's in there right now. I, too, hope these will get me the 50' to my car and the more complete PSK and FAK in the trunk.

Swiss army knife, strike anywhere matches, and a handkerchef.

My list also goes up and down, this is as small is it gets though.

Me:

Leatherman Wave or one of many kinds of SAK's.
LED Flashlight on Keyring
Fox-40 Whistle on Keyring
A red bandanna
A Lighter
AT&T Never-Expiring Calling Card (60 Minutes)
Some cash (usually about $120)

I'm never that far from an ammo pouch with:
4 Emergency drinking water pouches (24 oz Total)
Space Blanket
Mag-Fire Fire Starter
Rain Poncho (bright orange)
Micro-Trauma Kit (Just Gloves, Gauze, Medic Shears)
Window Punch (Ring-Style, same as we use for auto extrications)

Given that the recent steam explosion in NYC happened literally right as I was walking in the area, the thing I learned that is most important is the ability to RUN either TO or AWAY from the emergency.

The rest, you can improvise.

Ritter Grip/RSK Mk1
Mission Wallet (containing Peak Matterhorn 1xAAA LED, SAK Pioneer, Leatherman Micra, 2"x3" signal mirror from DR's PSP, 1/8"x2" ferro rod)
That's it. I'm sitting at the computer not even wearing shoes, but I have that stuff in my pockets, go figure.

This topic has been beat to death many times over. If you are interested, here is the third of three major threads on this board Every Day Carry - Part III. The search function will yeald much more. And if you simply can't get enough, go over to Blade Forums and knock yourself out - over 132 pages last time I checked.

The topic may have been beat to death, but I consider the occasional inquiry from other members of the forum to be a friendly reminder: if you don't have it with you, it's not gonna help you. So relax, have fun with it, and do a quick inventory of how prepared you are, or aren't. smile
