Go Kits for Ham

Go Kits for Ham - 11/22/08 12:35 AM

So, what kind of items have found their way into your Ham Radio Go-Kits? I'd like to put one together, but don't know the first thing.
I'd like to see examples of both personal (like radio bobs) and what you might use to support local emcomm.

Here's a presentation I did for Collin County ARES in Texas.

My Bag - slightly out of date - it's the EDC bag

http://www.thegallos.com/gobag.htm

I also have a few "sportsman outdoor boxes" (aka Orange Boxes) that are loaded with a pair of single band rigs (VHF and UHF) , headphones, cables etc, plus various battery boxes, from 12Ah (when I figure the problem will be short, and or I still have AC power to startm up to 110Ah

I have enough HTs sitting in chargers behind my desk to outfit a small police Dept, with at least 2 batteries each, PLUS a car charger

(Hint, for VHF/UHF I think I have 19 (give or take) rigs)

WOW - keep em coming. I'm relatively new to Ham, but want to work with the local chapter Red Cross to help improve their radio response. I especially like the approach of the Collins County TX ARES, N5OOM- great stuff, thanks for posting.

Lono, find your local ARES group if there's one around. An invaluable source for info.

I joined my local one just a few days after getting on the air.

Five pages of links to inventories of grab and go bags, stories of what was needed at various disasters (including at the Twin Towers), resources for where to get stuff cheap, how to protect your gear in harsh environments, kits, boxes, and more:

The "Orange Boxes" ath the bottom mostly belong to N2HPO, who lives about 2 miles from me

Jeff is a great guy, and will answer questions

There is another picture of some of his boxes here

One of my boxes should be somewhere in that photo
