Povidone-iodine cream - 09/14/05 04:06 PM

Have any of you any experience with a povidone-iodine based cream for your FAK? If you have, is it worth spending a dollar for the tube? I do not know what the % active ingredient is, but I would imagine it is not very high. Thanks for any info you might have. I realize that it would not be good to use for sterilizing water if it is a cream.

It does make for a nice "germ killer" but it also has been shown to grow bacteria if left in same location over 48-72 hours. Dont get me wrong it does do a great job fighting infection but its not meant to be left in place too long (ie wash wound and reapply daily for best results). something cheaper(depends where you buy) and simpler would be a generic double or triple antibiotic ointment.

Do you have a published reference for “but it also has been shown to grow bacteria if left in same location over 48-72 hours”?
