Aircrew Survival Vest

Aircrew Survival Vest - 06/04/05 05:06 PM

Hi,

We are contemplating the eventual purchase of survival vests for our crews.
We've decided to buy a model that includes a dual chamber life vest.
We also voted in favour of the Nomex mesh models, this type is lighter and well ventilated.
We have found only 2 models that comply with our preferences.
One is made by Mustang (a bit restrictive it seems...).
The other one is manufactured in Israel by Magam Industries and is the standard issue IAF survival vest for helicopter crews.
I'd love to get some input on this subject and get your opinions.
Thanks.

It sounds like you all have done some pretty detailed investigating already. What kind of information are you looking for, specifically?

Hello Paul,

We have tried to locate other manufacturers without success.
Hard to believe - despite the fact that many air forces use such equipment, we came up with only 2 manufacturers (Mustang & Magam).

Go to www.survivalinc.com and www.bcbin.com. Both companies are long time militarty/commercial vendors.

Can't tell if either of these meets your requirement that the vests include chambered life preserver, but one is/was US Navy pilot issue, and the other is also for aviation environment.

US Navy Survival Vest SV-2B & Airsave Multi-Service Survival Vest

Thanks for t he hint.

We evaluated the Air Save and the SV-2 models.
In our (humble) opinion, the SV-2 is an old design (vietnam era) that doesn't suit our needs - it is not comfortable to wear and the life jacket is not integrated.
The AIr Save pouches and pockets are modular but are not very convenient (and hang from the vest in a peculiar way), we tried the two models for a short period and decided to look for a better design.
