I couldn't stand it anymore, so in the interest of posting the findings I ordered 10 SAKs for $45.00. They should arrive next week and I'll post what exactly I received. With tax and shipping it came to $58 and change. I guess I can justify some stocking stuffers at that price or worst case return them.

X-ray Dave: I'd think twice about buying these -- or at least make a gentle inquiry of the vendor. They sound to me like knives that were confiscated at airports. I don't think I'd want to support that.

dchinell:
Yes, yes!, we do want them to be knives that were confiscated at airports. If we can tie them in as illegal profits by the TSA which I believe is supposed to destroy them, we could hang a few goose steppers out to dry in the courts.

If they're gonna confiscate it, why not destroy it? Or better yet, have a stack of postage COD envelopes at the security checkpoints and allow people to mail stuff home to themselves. Wait, that's too logical...

It could very well be that these are seconds from imprinters - specialty advertising - and that is what the "personalized" indication is.
I will be very interested in your findings, though.

Correct, cedfire. Logic and the screenerNazis are mutually exclusive terms.

Looks like it's time for Sarah to get out the cookie jar and see how much change we've collected...

At one point Smokey Mountain was selling collections like that. Their stuff was always mostly engraved. It was a leftover stock when either clients couldn't make a payment for their customization, they made too many cutom pieces or they made a mistake in customization.

Re: SAKs 10 for $45.00 - 08/01/04 07:16 PM
Well I cleaned them all up, got rid of the dirt, grime, grit and lint.
Gave them a good going over and didn't find anything broken or badly damaged. They all got sharpened and then I had to decide where they would go. I ended up going thru all the car kits and everyone's BOB, upgrading as I went along.
Found a home for all but the 3 smallest and 2 Tourist models.
The Tourists will probably upgrade my parents stuff. A nice weekend project. The cost worked out to be about what I'd pay at a pawn shop for the knives ( picked up 2 SAKs earlier this year for $5.00 each) without all the hassle. These knives were all used and not over runs or seconds from custom logos. Maybe they were confiscated at airports.

Airport confiscations? You tell me.
NTSA Airport Property Auction This guy even admits it.
eBay Knife dealer So now the questions becomes personal... snap up a deal because you can, or refuse because it indirectly supports the confiscation of weapons.

When I travel, I always take prelabeled shipping envelopes. Twice I have had to send things to my destination or home because of various security issues. If only there were FedEx boxes at the security check points...
