News article: Boaters say whales capsized their 23-foot vessel off San Diego coast Blue whales, apparently having fun messing with the humans. Photographer was wearing an inflatable, that far out in a small Zodiac I'd assume the Captain also had flotation. Still, stuff happens...

Nice story.

For me, it was yet another proof of the adage about "better lucky than smart."

There was a fishing boat nearby that saw the whole thing and picked them up. Now if there that fishing boat had not been there. . .

Whales are curious about small craft. I have had a grey whale come from far away to surface a few yards from my canoe.

I would have $@#% myself....

I had a dammed water snake try to get in my kayak the other day and that was bad enough. In Canada I know they aren't even poisonous. It still resulted in a few intense seconds of hand to hand combat and a few good jabs with my paddle before I could get it away from me. Anyone watching from shore would have certainly thought I was having a seizure.

A whale though? Oh hell no. Time for the spare underwear.
