Buck "SAK": backup due to lost victorinox + lanyrd - 09/05/10 06:10 PM

Well I lost my beloved victorinox fieldmaster. I think it may show up, last had it in the house! I've gone back to my old EDC (see below); but it doesn't hold a candle. notice the nail file; I sharpened it because I wanted a second blade that this simple knife did not have.

Good going.

I like it when people modify and customize their gear. You get something that more closely meets your needs. But also, in my mind quite important, customizing your gear also demystifies the concept of equipment. IMHO too many people treat their gear like it was a collection of holy relics handed down by some higher power; the shinier and more expensive the holier.

Demystified it is easier to avoid being a collector. Demystified, pieces of equipment can be seen as simple objects, that can be judged on function and seen as expendable tools, a means to an end, instead of a goal in themselves.

That's actually a Wenger, they did a collaboration with Buck to make that swissbuck.

I always clip it to the pocket on a carabiner:

I know it didn't slip out; I had it out somewhere around the house using it and now its gone!

The Fieldmaster returns!!!!!!!! - 09/22/10 03:24 PM

I came home last night and saw my beloved "lost" fieldmaster on the coffee table!!! I went to my wife "did you find my SAK"? no she said. I asked my 8yr old, "did you find my SAK"? no he said; I went to my 6 year old girl "did you find my SAK"? no she said. Bewildered and knowing full well it didn't just walk itself to the coffee table I approached my 3yr old. "Did you find daddys red knife"? "Yes daddy!".

I asked here where and she said under the chair (recliner)! I can't believe I never looked there!! I was so happy and she was sooo proud of herself!

Reminds me of this past weekend when I went to wood badge, had my blue Explorer deluxe in my pocket, got up there and it was gone. my son came home from school and found it snapped a photo with his phone and asked me if I was missing something. Glad you found it
