SAM/ Improvised Splint Diagrams - 01/02/08 03:01 AM

Anyone know where I can find comprehensive diagrams to splints? I've already tried online and my Weiss books.

IIRC, The Red Cross Advanced FA manual had diagrams and illustrations of typical splinting situations.

In my experience, you almost always had to make various adjustments from the "norm."

try these for a start: http://www.sammedical.com/samsplintdirections.pdf

I don't see it on the website, but at WMS meetings they had out a similar pamphlet with directions. You might try to contact Sam by phone or e-mail to see if these are still available.

I have a PDF file saved from the Journal of Special Operations Medicine Volume 4, Edition 3 Summer 2004 that has some Sam Splint splinting techniques in it.

My PDF file is only 6 pages. I tried to find it online to post a link, and the Vol. 4, Edition 3 I found has much more info (non-splint related) in it.

https://jsoupublic.socom.mil/publications/jsom/jsomq204.pdf

The PDF I have saved (from where I have no idea) has pages 61-65 plus the cover page only.

I will be glad to email anyone the 6 page PDF if anyone wants it.

Suzykaye,

Welcome to the fire newperson, nice first post! That was an interesting document, especially the article about the effects of poor hygiene on Soviet soldiers' health in Afganistan. Definately a lesson to take to heart.

Hey Blast!

Thanks for the Welcome! grin

I have been enjoying reading the ETS forums for a while now.

Glad I could finally contribute a little something!
